What kinds of presentations are made at ACUBE meetings?
ACUBE has four basic types of presentations: posters, 20 minute, 50 minute, and 80 minute. Topics on any area of biology education are welcomed, but note that presentations based on faculty or student scientific research are not accepted.
20 minute presentations
Typical talks given in the 20 minute time slots are overviews or ideas. Successful 20 minute talks tend to present a summary or single concept. If your presentation has a lot of data and/or you are looking for feedback from attendees, consider the 50 minute time slot.
40 minute roundtables and/or discussions
Roundtables provide opportunities for extended discussion on a specific topic of interest in a small group setting. They are excellent for feedback, engaging in-depth discussions, and meeting colleagues with similar interests. Ideally they begin with a 10-15 minute introduction.
These time slots are reserved for those wishing to present a hands-on workshop that trains attendees. They can take place in a classroom, biology laboratory, or computer laboratory.
Posters are welcome on any biology education topic, and ACUBE's poster sessions are some of the liveliest aspects of our Annual Meeting. A friendly reminder that posters on scientific research (done by you and/or your students) is not appropriate for ACUBE Annual Meetings; consider bringing those to your state Academy of Science Meeting.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How will I know if my abstract has been accepted?
ACUBE will notify you if there is a problem with your abstract within a few weeks of your submission. In general, as long as your presentation is about teaching college-level biology, we welcome most presentations.
I can only attend one of the two days of the conference... do I need to pay full registration?
Yes. At this time we do not accommodate partial registration fees.
Can I pay my annual membership and register for the conference at the same time?
Our website is not currently able the link the two processes. If you want to become a member and/or renew your membership, please do so under the "Membership Registration" tab before registering for the conference (this only takes a few minutes). We hope to be able to link payments for membership and conference registration in the future.
I do not have a PayPal account, do I need one?
No, you do not need a PayPal account to use PayPal. After you register and are taken to the PayPal login screen, simply select "Check out as Guest" and enter your credit card information.
Is there a discount for presenting?
No. Our prices vary based on membership, student/non-student, and the time at which you registered.
Both me and my colleague are presenting a talk, who should register and submit the abstract?
Both of you. Because registration and abstract submittal are linked via our website, you will both have to enter all the relevant information. Note that on the registration form there is a place to indicate that your co-author(s) is also attending the meeting, and note you are to list the lead author first.
What if I have special dietary needs?
We will do our best to accommodate everyone, but definitely notify the Local Arrangments Host with any specific requirements..
Will there be any child care available?
I'm bringing a friend or family member to the meeting, can they come to the conference?
If they want to attend the conference they must pay the appropriate registration fees. Please contact the local arrangements host or program chair with any specific question.
